What is Inflammatory Bowel Disease?  

IBS is often confused with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is the umbrella term for the chronic conditions ('Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). It can cause destructive inflammation and permanent damage to the intestines. IBD can be diagnosed through imaging procedures. A person with this condition is at an increased risk for colon cancer.
