What Is Crohn's Disease?

Crohn's disease is IBD that may occur in any part of the colon. Crohn's disease has three types:

  • Ileitis – affects the ileum or the lower part of the small intestine.
  • Crohn's colitis – affects the colon. 
  • Ileocolitis – affects both the colon and ileum.

Crohn's symptoms include:

  • Diarrhea which may sometimes be bloody
  • Stomach pain
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Dehydration

How Is Crohn's Disease Diagnosed?

Crohn's disease diagnosis include:

  • Physical exam
  • Laboratory tests
  • Intestinal endoscopy
  • Upper GI series
  • Computer tomography (CT) scan
