Abrazo Family Medicine Residency Medical Student Rotations

Abrazo Family Medicine Residency Program offers medical student rotations for professionals with the desire to specialize in Family Medicine.

Our residency offers outpatient clerkships in the Family Medicine Residency Clinic. Sub-internships are also available rotations in hospital medicine at Abrazo Central Campus. Students are afforded significant responsibility and attentive teaching from Family Medicine residents and faculty.

Family Medicine Clerkship

The Family Medicine Residency Clinic at Abrazo Central Campus provides in-depth training with residents and faculty.

• Students care for the full spectrum of patients and conditions, including challenging acute and chronic conditions from neonates to geriatrics
• Students will provide health education, preventative care, acute and chronic care, as well as prenatal care and perform procedures

We believe students learn best by doing, not watching. With our supervision, students evaluate patients independently and review their plans with senior residents and faculty. Students are expected to learn effective presentations and treatment plans.

The clinic offers computerized access to clinical information and patient education handouts. Faculty and Medical Staff provide noon conferences on Monday through Thursday and weekly Wednesday afternoon didactics. Continuity of care for our patients can provide experiences in the hospital, as well as opportunities in sports medicine, geriatrics, colposcopy, colonoscopy, wound care, auricular acupuncture and OB ultrasound.

Family Medicine Sub-Internship

Sub-Internship has multiple Medical School affiliation agreements. Please contact the Medical Student Coordinator for details. Electives are available to all students in good standing from LCME and COCA accredited medical schools (U.S. and Canadian Allopathic and Osteopathic schools).

As a Family Medicine Sub-Intern, you work as a first-year resident on the inpatient team providing hospitalist services.

Sub-interns:

• Follow up with patients daily on the floor, in the intensive care units and into surgery
• Are responsible for admission H&Ps, orders, progress notes and discharge orders

Subinternship rotations will be in the hospital and must have an affiliation agreement in place prior to applying to for a rotation. To confirm if your school has an agreement please send an email to [email protected]

Application Process for Sub-Internship

• Submit the application via email to [email protected]
• Positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis starting the first week of April
• Approved rotations are offered in four week blocks (to confirm the approved blocks per academic year send an email to the Family Medicine Program at [email protected])
• All qualifying applications will be reviewed by the Program Director for final approval
• Approved applicants will be notified of their rotation block for schedule confirmation
