Stephen Smith, MD - Dr. Stephen Smith is a founding partner of Peak Heart & Vascular and a board-certified vascular surgeon. Dr. Smith has advanced training in endovascular and minimally invasive vascular surgery. His expertise and teaching excellence has been recognized and awarded.
After receiving his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas in 2001, Dr. Smith completed his general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at UT Southwestern and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Following the completion of his training, Dr. Smith was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at UT Southwestern and the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Smith and his family moved to Phoenix in 2010, and he has been working to advance Vascular Surgery in the Valley. He is involved in leadership at Honor Health and was the Founding Chair of the Amputation Prevention Center across the network. Dr. Smith is also actively involved in the education and training of surgical residents at Valleywise/Creighton University and has received multiple teaching awards.
Dr. Smith has advanced training and a special interest in the endovascular treatment of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms and lower extremity peripheral arterial disease. He performed academic research in the area of deep venous thrombosis and has extensive experience in its minimally invasive treatment. Dr. Smith has extensive experience in the treatment of all aspects of venous disease, including varicose veins. He was selected to be a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is an active member of this organization and the Society of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Smith is certified by the American Board of Surgery in the specialties of General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Smith is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine.

Dawn Olsen, DO - Dr. Olsen is a Vascular Surgeon who has devoted herself to caring for those with vascular disease. Initially, she became a vascular Physician Assistant (PA) at the Arizona Heart Institute (AHI) under the tutelage of the world-recognized surgeon, Dr. Edward B. Diethrich. She realized her passion for vascular medicine and in 2008 returned to medical school. Dr. Olsen is residency-trained in open and endovascular venous and arterial surgery, completing her training at the University at Buffalo. She is also certified in both wound care and non-invasive vascular ultrasound. Dr. Olsen has co-authored nearly 30 publications as well as book chapters and has presented at meetings in the United States and abroad. Having 20+ years of diverse experience, she calls the Phoenix Valley home and helps improve the lives of those with vascular disease.

Hammad Amer MD, RPVI, is a board-certified vascular surgery specialist at American Vascular Specialists in Mesa, Arizona. Dr. Amer performs a wide variety of vascular procedures, including aneurysm repair, balloon angioplasty, carotid endarterectomy, lower extremity bypass, limb salvage and preservation, and peripheral arterial bypass. He’s highly skilled in both traditional surgical techniques and cutting-edge treatments using the latest minimally invasive technology.

Dr. Amer earned his medical degree at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, followed by a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Texas in Houston, Texas. Dr. Amer is board-certified and is also a registered physician in vascular interpretation (RPVI). 

In addition to his work as a surgeon, Dr. Amer serves as a clinical assistant professor in the surgery department at the University of Arizona in Phoenix. He previously worked as an assistant professor at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Julio Rodriguez-Lopez, MD - Dr. Rodriguez is a vascular surgeon who has devoted his life to Vascular education, research, and teaching. He is a highly skilled bilingual surgeon who specializes in the aggressive treatment of Vascular Disease. He received his Vascular fellowship at the Arizona Heart Institute and the Phoenix Regional Medical Center. As part of his advanced wound care training, Dr. Rodriguez received his certification in hyperbaric medicine at the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. He served as the Director of the Vascular & Endovascular Fellowship Training Program at the Arizona Heart Institute under the tutelage of surgeon, Dr. Edward B. Diethrich, and was the Director of the Arizona Heart Hospital (AHI) Wound Center from 1998 until 2015.

Dr. Rodriguez spent nearly twenty years as the Instructor of the Endovascular Surgery intermediate and advanced training program at both Columbia Medical Center and the Arizona Heart Hospital. He also served as an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University teaching for many years. He has been a guest speaker at several international medical symposiums. In addition to his educational speaking engagements, Dr. Rodriguez has authored multiple book chapters along with works that have been published worldwide in over eighty major peer-reviewed journals from 1992-current.
