Peripheral Arterial & Venous Ultrasound
What is a Peripheral Arterial and Venous Ultrasound?
This test uses sound waves to create images of the veins and arteries in your arms and legs. It helps check blood flow and detect blockages or circulation issues.
Why is This Test Done?
Your doctor may recommend this test to:
- Check for narrowed or blocked arteries
- Diagnose varicose veins or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Assess circulation problems in the legs or arms
- Plan for vascular procedures
What to Expect During the Test
- A gel is applied to the skin over the area being tested.
- A small device (transducer) moves over the skin to capture images.
- The test is painless and usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
- No special preparation is needed.
Understanding Your Results
Your doctor will review the images to check for any blood flow problems. If needed, further testing or treatment may be recommended.
