What is Holter and Event Monitoring?

Holter and event monitors are small, wearable devices that record your heart’s activity over time. These tests help detect irregular heartbeats that may not appear during a standard EKG.

Why is This Test Done?

Your doctor may recommend heart monitoring to:

  • Check for irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias)
  • Identify causes of dizziness or fainting
  • Monitor heart activity after a procedure
  • Assess how well a treatment is working

What to Expect During the Test

Holter Monitor:

  • Worn for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Records heart activity continuously.
  • You can go about your normal activities, but avoid getting it wet.

Event Monitor:

  • Worn for several days or weeks.
  • Records heart activity when symptoms occur.
  • You may need to press a button to start recording.

Understanding Your Results

Your doctor will review the recorded data to check for irregular heart rhythms. If any issues are found, they may suggest additional testing or treatment.
