Program Overview
We’re excited to offer the Abrazo Internal Medicine Residency Program, a three year, 45 resident program accepting 15 new residents per year. Our first residents started in June 2019.

Residency Program Highlights
- 24-hour access to Midwestern University’s library resources for research
- Access to Midwestern University’s simulation lab that includes simulation patients, mannequins and task trainer resources
- Space dedicated to educational activities including computer stations and safe and convenient call rooms
- Meals provided while on duty including access to the physician’s lounge
- Continuity clinic: Residency program is structured using the 4+1 model for continuity clinic training. For up to four weeks, the resident rotates with a specific specialty or clinical educational experience and then has one full week of continuity clinic training. Continuity clinic is split between the Abrazo Arrowhead campus and Abrazo West campus. Once assigned to a campus, the resident spends their entire residency there for continuity clinic.

- All applicants must apply to the Internal Medicine Residency Program through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System). It is the applicant’s responsibility to complete all steps outlined on the ERAS website.
- Abrazo Health only accepts applications from U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Applicants who are granted an interview will be notified via email after application has been reviewed. We encourage applicants to schedule their interview as soon as possible.

Abrazo Arrowhead Campus – General Training Location
The primary site for this program is Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, a 217-bed hospital and one of five hospitals in the Abrazo Health Network. With over 928 affiliated physicians, Abrazo Arrowhead is committed to providing safe and quality care to each patient and is committed to providing a safe and effective learning environment for residents. Residents work closely with top internal medicine sub-specialists during their training and are able to utilize the technology, laboratory and imaging services offered at Arrowhead.
Abrazo West Campus – Emergency Training
The Abrazo West Campus is a 188-bed hospital located in Goodyear, Arizona. Abrazo West has a Level I Trauma Center distinction and serves as the training site for emergency medicine rotations during PGY-1 and PGY-2.
Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital – Cardiology Training
Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital serves as the site for cardiology and cardiac care unit rotations during PGY-1, PGY-2 and PGY-3. Residents work closely with top board certified physicians in the Phoenix market and will have the opportunity to learn advanced techniques using state-of-the-art equipment/technology. Dany Bahdouch, M.D., serves as the site director for Arizona Heart. Residents also learn to incorporate evidence-based treatment and innovative solutions to care for the whole patient at Arizona Heart.
