About Michael Sumko
Dr. Michael J. Sumko, is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon that specializes in total knee and total hip replacement. He offers conservative treatment options to treat hip and knee arthritis and provides outpatient total joint replacement with minimally invasive muscle sparing techniques. These techniques allow for a faster return to activities and require little to no pain medications. Dr. Sumko participates in patient shared decision-making, fully educating the patient about their condition and options, thus allowing the patient to make an informed decision towards improving their health. He has a special interest in helping the retired armed forces community and serves patients at the VA hospital. Dr. Sumko enjoys sports, especially high school and college football. He played Division I football at Brigham Young University and has completed a two year church mission in Puerto Rico. Dr. Sumko is fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Michael Sumac treated me with respect as a person and made me feel valued as a patient. He actually examined my knee that I was concerned about and then also compared it to my other knee. He explained everything, suggested a brace, and made a recommendation that would work best for me as I have larger legs. After my visit and following Dr. Sumko's treatment options, I returned to my Bullhead City home and now switched to a new primary care clinic, where I am scheduled to work with a nutritionist and physical therapist. These steps will help me reach the goal of lowering my BMI to a safe level as prescribed in order to have needed surgery. My new health care provider and I have set a 6th month goal.

Pre-op tests are scheduled at the hospital so no running to different doctors for several days. 3. Pre & Post Op nutrition is addressed for a healthy healing process. 4. Rehab bike Is delivered to your home for optimum healing exercises. "NICE" cooling & compression system Is delivered to the hospital on day of surgery. Additional icing packs and other healing aids are also delivered to the hospital. 5. Post-op medications are provided several days prior to surgery so no last minute scrabbling to get prescriptions filled. You also receive a separate written expressions detailing, how and why the medicines are needed. 6. Pre-op nerve blocks to lessen surgical and recovery rehab pain.

I can honestly say that Dr. Sumko is simply the best. I was told at the very beginning of my knee replacement journey that he was the MD to go to. Having had my total left knee, I could not agree more. I have had MDs in different practice groups that if their moms needed surgery, that's the doc they would send her to. That speaks volumes to me as a retired nurse. And to have the PA that Dr. Sumko has...well, that's just icing on the cake. Dr. Sumko and Drew are pro fessional and personal in their approach. Knowledgeable and compassionate in their approach. I would not even entertain the thought of having surgery with any other orthopod. Dr. Sumko will be doing my right knee as well. I trust Dr. Sumko and his staff completely.

I have known Dr Sumko for over 6 years. He replaced my left hip and left knee. He is a crackerjack surgeon, knows his stuff and knows it well. Always easy to talk with. I wouldn't go to any other orthopedic surgeon. Great personality as well!
