My professional career has included teaching, research, counseling and consulting. It has taken me from Pennsylvania to Florida, Texas and Italy and now Arizona. I have experience as Clinical Manager of Outpatient Substance Abuse counseling in Florida, after which I worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While in Texas, I executed research grants investigating Community Behavior Change in the early years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic for the CDC. I also worked at the Behavioral Science faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The Phoenix Baptist Hospital Family Medicine Residency program has been the perfect career spot for me since my family vacationed in Arizona for years before we moved here. My wife, Elaine, is a neuro developmental pediatrician working at a number of Valley hospitals. Our children, Byron and Kelly, were born and raised in Medellin, Colombia until they were adopted at the ages of 11 and 8 respectively in 1997. Byron is a Ranger in the U. S. Army and Kelly is a MA; Skylar is our grandson.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a behavioral science faculty is the opportunity to be a resident advocate in many different settings — there is nothing quite like this joy in my career!
