Every day is Mother’s Day in hospital’s Labor & Delivery Unit

Every day is Mother’s Day in the Labor & Delivery and Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus. More than 3,500 babies, including high order multiple births like triplets, are born every year at Abrazo Arrowhead.
The Labor & Delivery team enjoys coming up with special onesies in celebration of holidays and special events. Last fall some of the newborns got Arizona Diamondbacks onesies in celebration of the team’s appearance in the 2023 World Series and more recently during the NCAA Final Four in held in Glendale.
Women’s and infants care is an important service for the hospital, said Abrazo Arrowhead Campus CEO Stephen Garner. “We love to see all of the beautiful Abrazo Arrowhead babies, and the onesies are fun for the families and staff to celebrate special occasions.”
Abrazo Arrowhead recently expanded the hospital’s NICU and successfully pursued designation as a Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for more complex maternal and neonatal medical conditions, obstetric and fetal complications.
Abrazo Arrowhead Campus offers Prepared Childbirth Classes to help parents-to-be know what to expect during the birthing experience, an exciting time that can sometimes be overwhelming, said Stone.
The class is designed for mothers (and their partner) who have never attended birth preparation classes. It includes an in-person tour of the Labor & Delivery, Postpartum and Nursery units. It covers many aspects of pregnancy and childbirth such as physical and psychological changes, stages of labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, medical interventions, Cesarean birth, pain management options and the partner's role in labor and delivery.
“In addition the class covers information about the hospital admission process, recovery period for mom and baby, newborn procedures after birth, newborn appearance, choosing a pediatrician, post-partum care,” said Stone.
