Abrazo Central Campus is heart of community

Abrazo Central Campus has seen many changes as community needs and medical technology evolved. Its neighbors have looked to the hospital for life-saving care for over 60 years as it serves as the ‘heartbeat’ of the north central Phoenix community.

One of the ways it stays connected with its neighbors is by being active in the community, especially with nearby schools. In addition to staff speaking to students about careers in healthcare, the hospital contributes in other ways.

Nurses from Abrazo Central Campus hold Teddy Bear Clinics with kindergarten and first grade students Maryland Elementary School. The children learn about basic first aid, how to call 911, household safety and practice what they learn about first aid.

Abrazo Central Campus also opened a new community art gallery featuring works by students at Washington High School as part of the hospital’s 60th anniversary celebration. The gallery showcases student art on a rotating basis in collaboration with the school.

“As the longtime community hospital in north central Phoenix, we strive to have meaningful relationships with our neighbors and support education,” said Abrazo Central Campus CEO Greg Pearson. “We look forward to enjoying the art in this gallery for many years to come.”

Generations of caregivers have dedicated their lives to patient care and community service at Abrazo Central Campus. The hospital’s Family Medicine Residency Program opened in 1978, and many young doctors who trained at Abrazo Central went on to become physician leaders in the greater Phoenix area.
