Abrazo hospitals named in new Top 10 ranking

Jul 17, 2020

patient being pushed in a wheel chairPHOENIX – Four Abrazo hospitals are named in the Arizona top 10 list of a new national hospital ranking from the Lown Institute, a nonprofit based in Brookline, Mass.

Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, Abrazo Central Campus, Abrazo Scottsdale Campus and Abrazo West Campus are included in the 2020 Lown Institute Hospitals Index, which assessed nearly 3,300 hospitals on 42 metrics from a wide variety of sources. The Index measures three categories:

  • Civic Leadership, which assesses a commitment to equity, inclusion and community health.
  • Value of Care, which measures use of unnecessary services, and
  • Patient Outcomes, which evaluates patient outcomes, safety and satisfaction.
Abrazo’s top priority is making sure our patients, our staff and its community remain safe. Clinical leaders regularly review patient care processes and adapt protocols to do what is best for patient care and ensure the safety of its patients, providers and staff.

“No other hospital ranking provides a 360-degree view of hospital performance,” said Shannon Brownlee, senior vice president at the Lown Institute. “Many of the best-known hospitals score highly on patient outcomes but poorly on civic leadership and value of care. Our data show that it’s possible to do well in all three categories, because some hospitals are doing it. That means all the people in their communities are being served effectively and fairly.”
