Abrazo Health recognizes importance of life-saving organ donations

Tami Biggs raising Donate Life flagAbrazo hospitals throughout the Valley are raising the Donate Life flag in honor of National Donate Life Month during April. Abrazo Central Campus staff gathered in front of the hospital to honor the generous donors who have given the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation.

“Hope and generosity are spreading throughout the state, and more than 3.5 million Arizonans said ‘yes’ to one day sharing the gift of life,” said Tami Biggs, chief nursing officer at Abrazo Central Campus.

Donate Life flag raising and organ donor registration events are also being held at the Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital, Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, Abrazo Scottsdale Campus and Abrazo West Campus.

“Today we call attention to the great need for lifesaving and life-healing transplants, we honor the generous individuals and their families who have chosen to share life through donation, and we celebrate the lives that have been saved and healed through these incredible gifts,” said Biggs.

Organ donors from Abrazo Central Campus have helped save 23 lives over the past year, according to Donor Network of Arizona representatives.

  • In Arizona in 2018, 779 lives were saved through the generosity of 283 organ donors
  • Nearly 1,800 people in Arizona are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant
  • More than 3.5 million Arizonans are registered as organ, cornea and tissue donors
  • Nationally, more than 113,000 are on the waiting list for organ transplant

Arizona residents can register for organ, cornea and tissue donation by checking the donor box when applying for or renewing their driver license or state ID.
