Primary Stroke Center
Abrazo hospitals have the expertise in evaluating, treating and managing patients who have strokes. Patients receive accurate diagnosis and efficient care, which is crucial for time-sensitive treatment. This is particularly important in cases of ischemic stroke that are caused by a blocked artery in the brain.
Quick diagnosis by EMS (Emergency Medical Services) results in faster recognition and transport and ensures the best possible treatment of stroke patients.
Certified Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (TJC) which recognizes hospitals that make exceptional efforts to achieve better outcomes for stroke care. Obtaining primary stroke certification ensures those suffering stroke symptoms in our communities will be able to receive the care they need close to home, avoiding a long transport to another hospital when time is of the essence. Two Abrazo Health hospitals are designated Certified Primary Stroke Center by TJC:
- Phoenix Baptist Hospital
- West Valley Hospital

- Maryvale Hospital (to be certified in 2012)
