PHOENIX (Sept. 7, 2011) – Abrazo Health Care, Imaging Advantage and Arizona Medical Imaging are set to open a unique radiology reading center on the campus of Paradise Valley Hospital, located at 3805 E. Bell Road, on Sept. 12. The concept of the Abrazo Center for Telemedicine and Innovation leverages the latest technology to optimize diagnostic imaging studies such as CT scans, MRI and ultrasounds performed at Abrazo’s six Valley hospitals. The centralized Center will allow radiologists the opportunity to read results in a much quicker and more efficient capacity while utilizing the most advanced equipment.

The Center will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by local board certified radiologists and staff who will be able to seamlessly communicate with physicians at Abrazo’s hospitals. Radiologists will be able to review, interpret and sign each study using state-of-the-art voice recognition software, eliminating the need for human transcription services. The results will be sent electronically back to the hospital and the ordering physician for patient consultation and follow-up.

“The highly innovative Center will give our radiologists the opportunity to interpret diagnostic imaging tests utilizing world-class technology to provide quicker results to patients,” said Dr. Mark Kestner, chief medical officer, Abrazo Health Care. “The Center is truly unique not only to the Valley but across the country and will ultimately improve our ability to perform more advanced and complex imaging reads in a shorter amount of time. We anticipate a measurable impact on turnaround time, length of stay and most importantly, quality.”

The Center is one of a kind and is a first in the country. Complete with video conferencing technology which allows real-time physician communication, ergonomic work stations, superior lighting, and modern surroundings, the Center creates an environment that is compelling for physicians.

“The Center allows us to focus on functionality, productivity and accuracy of our imaging studies,” said Dr. Arthur Radow, M.D., president, Arizona Medical Imaging. “This transformation is the future of radiology and health care. We are standardizing our protocols throughout each Abrazo facility that will increase our productivity and positively affect patient care. We take great pride in this endeavor. ”
