Cardiac rehabilitation is not just for people who have been hospitalized with heart trouble. It is also for people who want to minimize their risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular complications.
Cardiac Rehabilitation: A Healthy Combination of Exercise and Education
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program combines personal, supervised exercise sessions with thorough educational classes.
The program has many components, all designed to guide, educate and help you understand what it takes to have a healthy heart. Some of the information you will receive includes the following:
- Individualized cardiovascular risk factor assessment
- Enhance wellness through knowledge of the common risk factors of heart diseases
- Dietary guidance for heart-healthy eating
- An understanding of the benefits of exercise and the impact they have on your heart
- Stress management techniques and lifestyle change
- Gaining an understanding of medications and their effects on the heart

- Decrease in resting hear rate and blood pressure
- Improvement in blood sugar levels
- Improvement in HDL (good) cholesterol

PHASE I: Cardiac Rehabilitation
This is a program that offers education for patients admitted to Arrowhead Hospital with a diagnosis of
heart diseases or an elevated risk of heart disease.
PHASE II: Cardiac Rehabilitation
This is a program that is offered at Arrowhead Hospital and Paradise Valley Hospital to people with a written physician referral. You must have had a recent diagnosis of a heart attack, a coronary artery bypass graft surgery, chest pain due to coronary artery disease, angioplasty, or a stent procedure to qualify for this level of the program.
PHASE III: Cardiac Rehabilitation
This is a self-referred program that is offered at Arrowhead Hospital and Paradise Valley Hospital, and requires a physician clearance. If you are stable, with a history of coronary artery disease, or have known risk factors for coronary artery disease, this is the program for you. There is a minimal monthly fee associated with this program.
