ABRAZO OFFERS FREE VASCULAR SCREENINGS FOR

PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE

September is national PAD awareness month, screenings help determine risk for heart attack, stroke

WHAT:             Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) affects between 8 and 12 million Americans. PAD happens when arteries in the legs become clogged with plaque and reduces blood flow typically to the legs and feet but can also reach the heart, brain, kidneys or stomach. Patients with PAD are at an increased risk for heart attack and stroke. There are screening methods available to determine if someone is at risk.

Four Abrazo hospitals are participating in a free community screening event for PAD awareness month. Screenings will consist of a PAD risk assessment questionnaire, blood pressure and foot/ankle pulse check, an ankle-brachial index test, and a counseling session with a nurse or physician to review results and identify next steps.
