Born in Elko, Nevada, I spent most of my formative years in Vietnam, Nepal and India, where my parents served as medical missionaries. Such an upbringing made it plain to me that surgery or family practice are the best fields to help the most people in the most practical ways. Plus our family already has its share of surgeons, so I, the individualist, took up family practice.
After medical school at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and residency at Maricopa Medical Center, I moved to Memphis for a year to complete The Fellowship in Advanced Women's Health, learning more about high-risk pregnancies and getting training in C-sections. My special interests in FP are obstetrics, patient education, and promotion of the values of our specialty. Someday I hope to live and work in Asia again or perhaps on the Navajo Reservation, where my ancestors came from.
