Abrazo Health’s Phoenix Baptist Hospital Raises Awareness For National Donate Life Month

PHOENIX (April 25, 2014) – Abrazo Health’s Phoenix Baptist Hospital is participating in Health Care forHope throughout the month of April, which is National Donate Life Month. Health Care for Hope is acampaign organized by the Donor Network of Arizona (DNA) to share information about donation andencourage others to register as organ and tissue donors.

Throughout the month of April, hospitals and health care facilities across Arizona are joining together insupport of the DNA to save lives through organ and tissue donor registration. DNA, in partnership withthe Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association, has set a goal of 4,000 new registrations andreaffirmations of donor status by the end of the month.

There are currently 2,500 Arizonans waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. One organ and tissuedonor can save and heal up to 50 lives or more. Last year, 180 organ donors saved 492 lives in Arizona.In 2013, Phoenix Baptist Hospital helped save and heal dozens of lives through seven organ donors, nineocular donors and nine tissue donors. There are no health requirements or age limits for becoming aregistered donor.

Phoenix Baptist Hospital will host a special “One Big Day” event on April 29th from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PMto raise awareness about organ and tissue donation. There will be a flag raising ceremony as well asdonation registration and reaffirmation available throughout the day. Phoenix Baptist Hospital CEO DanJones will be making a speech and a donor recipient will be present to discuss the benefits of donation.
