PHOENIX (September 20, 2012) – For years, employees at Abrazo Health Care’s Maryvale Hospital have donated gently used clothing and shoes to “The Maryvale Closet,” an internal collection that is available to patients who may be in need.
“The frequency of our patients requesting clothing and shoes is higher than you’d think,” said Crystal Hamilton, CEO for Maryvale Hospital.
With one of the greatest requests being for shoes, the employees at Maryvale Hospital launched the first Maryvale Hospital Flip Flop Drive. In just one month, Hospital staff – including executives, physicians, nurses and administration -- collected more than 230 pairs of men’s and women’s flip flops in a variety of sizes, more than doubling the original goal of 100 pairs.
“Maryvale employees really latched on to this program and I think it’s a testament to how passionate we are about helping the members of the community which we serve,” said Hamilton.
To promote the collection, the internal hospital team created posters, sent staff emails and placed collection boxes on each floor of the community Hospital.
“I repeatedly over heard staff saying that they were excited to purchase five to 10 pairs of flip flops for donation during their personal shopping trips,” said Hamilton.
Maryvale Hospital has been serving the Valley for over 50 years. Located at 5102 West Campbell Avenue in Phoenix, the 232-bed, 24-hour hospital offers comprehensive inpatient services, an emergency care and accredited chest pain center. For more information visit www.maryvalehospital.com.
