Stroke Care
As part of our ongoing commitment to deliver the highest level of cardiovascular care, West Valley Hospital received certified Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (TJC). This advanced certification program meets very specific clinical requirements and expectations.
Obtaining primary stroke certification ensures those suffering stroke symptoms in our communities will be able to receive the care they need close to home, avoiding a long transport to another hospital when time is of the essence. Stroke patients can receive accurate diagnosis and efficient care, crucial for time-sensitive treatment. This is particularly important in cases of ischemic stroke that is caused by a blocked artery in the brain.
Quick diagnosis by EMS (Emergency Medical Services) results in faster recognition, transport, and ensures the best possible treatment of stroke patients. The goal of the Primary Stroke Center Initiative is for 100 percent of patients to arrive at the hospital within two (2) hours after the initial stroke symptoms occur.
West Valley Hospital also received the Get With The Guidelines Bronze Performance Award by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. West Valley Hospital received the award for demonstrating a commitment to treating stroke patients with 85 percentage or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for 90 consecutive days.
