Stroke Care
In treating stroke and other neurological disorders, such as seizures and accident-related head and spinal cord injuries, every minute counts. As soon as symptoms arise, getting to an Emergency Department is critical. Phoenix Baptist Hospital offers Neurosurgeon Dr. Daniel Lieberman along with staff members specially trained in neurological care, to quickly and competently care for these patients.
With a shortage of Neurological services in Arizona, Phoenix Baptist Hospital is committed to expanding its services to help patients state-wide. Previously, some patients had to go out of state to receive care. The program will save lives and prevent long-term damage to patients who need immediate neurological care.
As part of the hospitals ongoing commitment to deliver the highest level of cardiovascular care, Phoenix Baptist Hospital received certified Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (TJC). This advanced certification program meets very specific clinical requirements and expectations.
Obtaining primary stroke certification ensures those suffering stroke symptoms in our communities will be able to receive the care they need close to home, avoiding a long transport to another hospital when time is of the essence. Stroke patients can receive accurate diagnosis and efficient care, crucial for time-sensitive treatment. This is particularly important in cases of ischemic stroke that is caused by a blocked artery in the brain.
Quick diagnosis by EMS (Emergency Medical Services) results in faster recognition, transport, and ensures the best possible treatment of stroke patients. The goal of the Primary Stroke Center Initiative is for 100 percent of patients to arrive at the hospital within two (2) hours after the initial stroke symptoms occur.
Phoenix Baptist Hospital is also a recipient of the Get With The Guidelines Silver Plus Achievement Award 2012 & 2011 by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. Phoenix Baptist Hospital received the award for demonstrating their commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that patients receive treatment according to national accepted standards and recommendations. To receive the Get With The Guidelines Silver Plus Achievement Award, Phoenix Baptist Hospital consistently followed the treatment guidelines for the past 12 months.
In addition, Phoenix Baptist Hospital recieved the Get With The Guidelines Bronze Achievement Award 2011 for demonstrating a commitment to treating stroke patients with 85 percentage or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for 90 consecutive days.
