As part of our ongoing commitment to deliver the highest level of cardiovascular care, Arrowhead Hospital is a member of the Arizona Primary Stroke Center. Hospitals must meet 26 criteria to obtain this certification from the American Stroke Association. These criteria range from an acute stroke team and stroke units to rapid lab testing and 24-hour interpretation of computerized CT scans.
Arrowhead Hospital received the designation of "Primary Stroke Center" from the Phoenix Primary Stroke Center Initiative- Phoenix Coalition, through the American Heart Association in 2004.
Stroke patients can receive accurate diagnosis and efficient care, crucial for time-sensitive treatment. This is particularly important in cases of ischemic stroke that is caused by a blocked artery in the brain.
Quick diagnosis by EMS (Emergency Medical Services) results in faster recognition, transport, and ensures the best possible treatment of stroke patients. The goal of the Primary Stroke Center Initiative is for 100 percent of patients to arrive at the hospital within two (2) hours after the initial stroke symptoms occur.
