PHOENIX – Abrazo Health announced today that Arrowhead Hospital has received the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Silver-Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes Arrowhead Hospital for commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
To receive the Get With The Guidelines Silver Plus Achievement Award, Arrowhead Hospital achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for 12 consecutive months. In addition, Arrowhead Hospital achieved 75 percent compliance to the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care. These measures include aggressive use of medications and risk-reduction therapies aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.
In addition to the Get With The Guidelines-Stoke award, Arrowhead Hospital has also been recognized as a recipient of the association’s Target: Stroke honor roll for meeting stroke quality measures that reduce the time between hospital arrival and treatment with the clot-buster tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke. People who suffer a stroke who receive the drug within three hours of the onset of symptoms may recover more quickly and are less likely to suffer severe disability.
“Arrowhead Hospital is dedicated to improving the quality of stroke care and The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines–Stroke helps us achieve that goal,” said Frank Molinaro, CEO of Arrowhead Hospital. “This award demonstrates our commitment to ensure our patients receive care based on internationally-respected clinical guidelines.”
According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is one of the leading causes of death and serious, long-term disability in the United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
