SWAE Pioneer for Quality Award:
Arrowhead Hospital was named the 2013 Pioneer for Quality Award winner by the Southwest Alliance for Excellence, formerly The Arizona Quality Alliance. The Pioneer Award honors organizations, like Arrowhead Hospital, that have established and deployed fundamental quality systems within their operations, attaining commendable levels of performance excellence process implementation, and has a solid approach for implementing quality in place. The Performance Excellence Award Program is modeled after the national Baldrige Performance Excellence Program criteria, one of the best methodologies available to develop a higher level of organizational performance.
Top Performer Key Quality Measures Award:
Arrowhead Hospital has been named a Top Performer on Key Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America, for exemplary clinical performance in the following areas: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care. Of 3,343 Joint Commission accredited hospital’s reporting accountability measures, only 1,099, or 33-percent, were named Top Performers. Only 13 hospitals in Arizona were selected, and Arrowhead was one of seven in the state to be a Top Performer in four categories. The Top Performer hospitals announced in 2013 are selected based on data that were reported for 2012.
Society of Thoracic Surgeons 3 STAR Award:
Arrowhead Hospital’s Cardiac Surgery program has once again been recognized with a three-star rating - the higest designation of quality and clinical excellence - by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The 3 Stars was achieved in the isolated bypass category. Only 12-15% of programs nationwide achieve this distinction in isolated bypass surgery. Arrowhead Hospital’s Cardiac Program has received this recognition in 2013, 2009, 2008 & 2007.
AZ Performance Excellence Program Award:
Receiving the Category Award for Excellence in Category 4: Measurements, Analysis and Knowledge Management in 2012 recognized that Arrowhead Hospital has achieved a level of performance and results in that category that leads other hospitals within the state. Blue Distinction Centers+ sm:
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona has recognized Arrowhead Hospital as one of the first hospitals in the nation, and the ONLY hospital in the West Valley, to receive a Blue Distinction Center+ sm designation in the area of cardiac care, as part of the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are hospitals shown to deliver quality specialty care based on objective, transparent measures for patient safety and health outcomes that were developed with input from the medical community. Arrowhead earned this distinction in 2013.
Epicenter for General Single-Site da Vinci Surgery:
Arrowhead Hospital has been chosen as one of only a hand full of hospitals nationwide to be designated as an “Epicenter for General Single-Site Surgery” by Intuitive Surgical, the makers of the da Vinci Surgical System. As an Epicenter, Arrowhead acts as a training ground for surgeons across the nation to observe and train in robotic surgery with general surgeon Brian Prebil, D.O. The Epicenter designation recognizes the excellence in the general robotic surgery program at Arrowhead and the proficiency of Dr. Prebil and his partner, Conrad Ballecer, M.D.
Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals:
Arrowhead Hospital has been selected as one of Truven Health’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals for 2014. The Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals is an annual quantitative study that identifies the nation’s best providers of cardiovascular service. The 50 Top hospitals are selected from more than 1,000 U.S. hospitals and do not apply for this honor. According to Truven Health, if all hospitals preformed at the level Arrowhead has achieved an additional 8,600 lives could be saved; one billion dollars could be saved; and an additional 3,200 bypass and angioplasty patients could be complication- free.
The Leapfrog Group “A” Safety Score Award:
For the third consecutive time, Arrowhead Hospital has received a grade of A for patient safety in a report released by the Leapfrog Group. The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. Grades are handed out twice a year by The Leapfrog Group, in Spring and Fall. Arrowhead has received an “A” grade in Fall 2012, Spring 2013 & Fall 2013.
Midas+ Platinum Quality Award:
The Midas quality review organization has again recognized Arrowhead Hospital with a MIDAS+ Platinum Quality Award for clinical performance. The award is based upon comparative performance in 12 clinical areas for more than 600 hospitals that participate in either the MIDAS+ CPMS or DataVision solutions. Only those hospitals that score in the top 5 percent are honored with this award. Arrowhead has been named a Midas+ Platinum Quality Award winner 2 years in a row: 2011 - 2012. (award dates are based on previous year data, so they are actually awarded for the preceding calendar year.)
Arrowhead Hospital is a Certified Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center:
The achievement of certification signifies that Arrowhead provides Stroke care that is critical to long term success in improving patient outcomes, as well as being equipped to exceed the very specialized needs of stroke patients. The Joint Commission’s Primary Stroke Center Certification program was developed in collaboration with the American Stroke Association. It is based on the Brain Attack Coalition’s “Recommendations for the Establishment of Primary Stroke Centers.”
